We find our E-editions are best downloaded through a Wi-Fi connection for a faster response time. Download times differ depending on the speed of your connection, but the E-editions will download fine on any 3G network.
Once you've downloaded your e-edition it is available offline at any time.
Try to make sure you regularly update your E-edition app to the latest version, this will ensure the smooth running of the e-edition.
If you have any questions about using the app or are having trouble downloading it please have a read through our list of Frequently Asked Questions, below, to see if you can find the answer.

Q: I am getting the message “Accessing Apple Store” or “Loading” but nothing happens.
A: Some iPad users experience a problem accessing the first downloaded edition when their iPad’s ‘In-App Purchase’ restrictions are turned ‘Off’. This occurs even if the app itself is entirely free. Try changing your in-app purchase setting to ‘On’. This should only affect the first download, and you will be able to reapply the setting once you have received the first edition download. Go to Settings, then General, then Restrictions. Enter your security code and, under Allowed Content, change In-App Purchases to ‘On’. If you are still having problems, kill the app on newsstand by holding your finger on the newspaper icon. When it starts to wobble press the x in the top lefthand corner and delete. Now go back to the app in newsstand and download it again, remembering to keep In-App Purchases set to ‘On’.
Q: I am unable to get my e-edition download when at work or in some public Wi-Fi zones.
A: Some private companies and public businesses/retailers impose a firewall that restricts downloads to Wi-Fi users, whether they are staff or customers. They make Wi-Fi available for surfing the internet, but not to download content. You might find a Wi-Fi hotspot in a cafe allows you internet access but prevents you downloading your e-edition or other content like music and movies. If you can’t get the download where you work, despite being in a Wi-Fi zone, check with your company’s administrators.
Q: I have just got the app but can’t get any back issues in my archive under ‘Home’.
A: Your subscription to the e-edition begins on the day you first access it, and previous editions will not be available. They may appear ‘greyed out’ in the archive, but you can only access issues from the day of subscription onward.
Q: Will download sizes limit my ability to get the e-edition each day?
A: Each edition of the paper has a download size of about 100MB. But depending on which generation iPad you have, when the edition ‘unpacks’ the extra content it can take up anywhere between 100MB to 300MB of usage space on your iPad. Most broadband download deals vary between a monthly 10gb limit and an unlimited amount. You can free up space on your iPad by deleting previous editions you have read. If you have download limits set by your broadband Wi-Fi or 3G supplier you must ensure you don’t go over them. Doing so may mean you are charged more by your supplier or you are blocked from further downloads.
Q: Will downloading the app abroad affect my 3G contract limits?
A: Check your 3G roaming costs before using your iPad abroad. It is better to download the app using Wi-Fi when abroad as 3G roaming charges may be high.
Q: How do I get my newspaper E-edition app on my iPad?
A: Our app is only available through Apple’s iTunes or App Store. Tap on the app store icon or newsstand on your iPad’s home page and under ‘categories’ search for your title. Tap on the relevant app icon and enter your iTunes account password to install the app.
Q: Where do I find my E-edition copy of my newspaper each day?
A: The E-edition is delivered automatically every day to Apple’s Newsstand, which means you don’t have to find it and download it yourself. Simply tap on the newsstand on the iPad homepage and select your newspaper.
Q: My daily e-edition hasn’t downloaded to my iPad?
A: Open the ‘Newstand’ icon on your iPad and tap on the icon of your newspaper. You should be presented with ‘thumbnails’ (small pictures of frontpages) of all the editions available to you. If you are not on this page tap on ‘Home’ in the toolbar along the top of your screen and it will take you to the correct page. The edition for the day should be shown in grayscale in the top lefthand corner of the page. Tap on it and it will download the edition. If you are still unable to download it check your internet connection. Tip: Whether you get the automatic download may vary depending on whether you leave your iPad overnight in a strong Wi-Fi area or not. The best place to store it overnight is near your Wi-Fi set-up.
Q: Can I get the overnight auto-download if I've chosen not to receive alerts and notifications from the app?
A: No. If you chose not to receive alerts and notifications from the app then the paper will not automatically download over night, meaning you will have to manually download it. To change this go to 'Settings' on your iPad, then 'Notifications' and scroll down to the app. Tap to open and turn 'on' 'Badge app icon' and 'View in Lock Screen'.
Q: How do I connect my iPad to the internet?
A: Click on your iPad’s ‘settings’ button (the cogs on your first screen) and go to Wi-Fi. Make sure the top Wi-Fi button on the righthand side of the screen is turned to ‘On’. Your iPad will then search for networks and ask you to select one and enter the username and password. If you have a 3G account (requiring a mobile sim card) you can access the internet using that, although we recommend you download the daily edition using Wi-Fi for a speedier result.
Q: What does ‘offline browsing’ mean?
A: Offline browsing means once you have downloaded the app you can read any downloaded issue anywhere without an internet connection.
Q: I am connected to the internet but I still can’t download my e-edition, what do I do now?
A: Try closing the app completely, and then reopening it. To do this you have to double click on the iPad Home button (the button with the square symbol in the centre along the base of your iPad). This will bring up a row of icons along the bottom of the screen. Hold your finger on the app icon for a few seconds and all the icons will start to wobble and a little minus sign will appear in the top lefthand corner of the icons. Tap on the minus sign on the app icon and it will disappear, closing the app. Click the iPad Home button again to return to the normal screen. Now go back into newsstand and tap on the icon for your newspaper. The App will relaunch with the new edition. Tap on the edition and let it download to be read.
If you are still unable to access the e-edition email tabletsupport@trinitymirror.com
Q: When I manually download the app it seems to take longer for the pages to turn. Why is that?
A: When you receive an auto-download the entire edition of the paper has downloaded and ‘unpacked’ by the time you open it. However, when you manually download the edition there is a period of between 90 seconds and three minutes in which the app continues to ‘unpack’ the edition - finalising the download. This is noticeable when you flick quickly through the pages. If you have a Retina screen iPad 3 it takes longer to unpack the edition than if you have an iPad 1 or 2. Wait a few minutes for the whole edition to unpack and you can turn freely and rapidly through the edition pages.
>Q: Why can’t I download the app to my iPhone, smartphone or Android tablet?
A: The e-edition app is currently configured only for use on iPads, however we will soon be rolling out a version for Android tablets too. Some of our titles also have a separate app for iPhones.
Q: How come the crosswords are interactive, but I can’t play sudoku or the other puzzles?
A: The current version of the iPad only supports interactive crossword puzzles, but we are working on making the other puzzles interactive in future versions of the app.
Q: Why is it when I tap the ‘inspect’ button on the crosswords for the answers and then go back to the crossword it wipes out all of my previous answers
A: The ‘inspect’ button is not meant to be used as a repeated prompt to solve the crossword, but to be used once you have completed the crossword to show how much you have got right.
Q: How do I change what regional edition of the paper I am getting?
A: If multiple regions are available for your title, Tap on ‘Settings’ on the homepage of your iPad and find the icon for your newspaper. Tap on the icon and then on ‘Current edition’. You will be presented with options for all the regional editions. Tap on the one you want and a tick will appear next to it. The edition you selected will be the one that is downloaded the next day and every day until you decide to change it. To leave settings press the main button at the bottom of your iPad.
Q: Can I get my e-edition when I am on holiday?
A: Yes. Your e-edition is available globally and can be viewed wherever you have an internet link to receive the daily download. However, be aware different telephone providers charge differently for data roaming abroad, and you should check first with them what you will be charged if you are on a 3G account. Typically, the best way to receive the download is if you have Wi-Fi at your hotel.
Q: Can I subscribe to your E-edition app if I live outside of Britain?
A: Yes, you can subscribe to the app from anywhere in the world, except France.
Q: How do I delete old editions that I have finished reading?
A: To delete an edition in your archive, go to ‘Home’ and tap on the ‘x’ in the circle at the top righthand corner of the edition you want to delete. Once you have done this, though, you will be unable to read that edition again or re-download it.
Q: I cannot play any videos and get a message saying 'Please connect to the internet to access additional content'. What should I do?
A: Most features of your e-edition will work once it has been downloaded, however to access video and/or web links you need to be connected to the internet either through a Wi-Fi link or a 3G account.
Q: What is the difference between the newspaper's website and the E-edition iPad app?
A: Our websites provides a constantly changing news website that you can access through the Safari browser on your iPad. The E-edition iPad app gives you an exact digital reproduction of the actual paper. It contains the best stories and most comprehensive overview of the day’s news and is enriched with additional material to enhance your experience. And unlike the website the E-edition app, once downloaded, can be read offline anywhere you are.
Q: How can I make the text size bigger so it’s easier to read?
A: There are two ways of reading the e-edition. You can read the page like a normal newspaper, but by pinching your thumb and forefinger together on the screen and then moving them apart you can zoom in and out to make the text bigger or smaller. The other way is to tap on a story and go to the article view, which gives you an easy to read, Kindle-style text box. A handy ‘type size’ bar at the top of the article view allows you to adjust the size of the text to what best suits you.
Q: What do I do if I still have a question about the app, am having trouble using it or want to complain about something?
A: Contact a member of our App Team at tabletsupport@trinitymirror.com. We aim to respond to all queries within 24 hours.
